The number one question I get asked - How Can I Best Treat Aging Skin?

One of the number one questions my clients ask me is “How can I best treat aging skin?” This is so vital. The formation of wrinkles follows the patterns of our habitual expressions.  Negative thoughts and emotions can play a significant role in the appearance of the skin. I have noticed a look of disappointment  on many mid life women's faces.  When we don't attend to ourselves, emotions like sadness and disappointment will rise to the surface.  These feelings are our bodies wake up messages...something or some area of our life needs attending to.    If we’re feeling stressed, frown lines get worked over and over again, creating more prominent wrinkles. And if we smile, just slightly, that gesture lifts and supports cheek muscles and diminishes lines around the mouth, while incredibly, releasing endorphins that soothe the mind. In the same way, lifting the chin just a touch conveys a sense of surprise, without reinforcing the lines running across the forehead, as more shocked expressions do. Learning to be less reactive has an effect! So does changing habitual contrary thought patterns, and learning to manage emotions. Of course, it won’t happen overnight, but after 3 to 6 months clients do see a noticeable difference.

I find great benefit in listening to guided meditations  to calm and centre myself.  Meditation brings me  out of my head and  into my body.   Becoming more mindful helps me respond to the bombardment of LIFE that comes at us on a daily basis. Here are some great FREE resources that I use regularly to ground myself and ease the tension in my day:

I enjoy Peter Renners gentle voice in these meditations, make sure to note the great yoga nidra meditation by local restorative yoga teacher Jennifer Piercy in Peter's line up of meditation offerings: http://www.heartmind.ca/meditations/

Esther Teule has good grounding meditations online: http://www.ekhartyoga.com/video/morning-meditation

Angela Thurston who lives here in Victoria has this unique meditation that connects you with your womb space...I find it a powerful way to get in touch with deep held emotions: http://angelathurston.com/meditation-gift/

Lastly I am a fan of OSHO meditations, try these ones: http://oshonow.net/online-guided-meditations/

While applying a serum or a cream can’t do it all, I want to share with you my positive aging treatment protocol for mature skin, which has helped so many of my clients. The idea here is to stimulate new cell growth, protect the skin from environmental elements, increase the elasticity of connective tissue and replenish the skin with concentrated, deeply penetrating nourishment and hydration. This protocol also compliments and inspires holistic living and healing at every level, helping us to find the ease and calm that slows the aging process while restoring skin’s radiance.

Kathleen's Positive Aging Treatment Protocol: All products are from the Dr Hauschka range.

Morning: Apply Cleansing Cream in the morning to wash away the waste products your skin has  eliminated during the night. Follow with a few sprays of the Facial Toner, 1 pump of Regenerating Serum applied to the entire face and neck area.  Apply a  rice size amount of Regenerating Eye Cream. Massage 1 to 2 drops of Clarifying Oil  onto skin and finish with Regenerating Day Cream.

Note:  This might seem like alot of work if you have been use to a wash and go routine.  Sorry there are no short cuts to healthy skin.  I get complimented on my skin alot and the truth is...I have to work at it to have good skin.  I take the  time to use the products that are going to feed and support my skin.

NIght: At night it's super easy.  Use the Cleansing Milk - wet face with warm water, and gently massage a few pumps of the milk onto your face and neck- rinse with warm water. Use 2 pumps of the Regenerating Serum, all around your eye area, face, neck and decollate. No night cream is needed.  The Serum is water based and allows your skin to breath out...just like the earth breathes out during the night producing dew in the morning.

Weekly:  I use masks way more now that I am in my late 40's.  My evening ritual is to have a calming bath and I aways use one of the Dr Hauschka masks at this time.  Another option is to apply a mask in the morning after you have cleansed your face.  Leave it on while you make your breakfast and do your morning routine.
There is one more thing I absolutely must do once a week or else my skin is a wreak: Clay Mask. The Clay Mask by Dr Hauschka is unique in 2 ways. One it uses Loess Clay which is different from the typical benonite or kanolin clay...it full of minerals.  Secondly it also contains purifying herbs such as nasturtium and witch hazel.

The clay mask is my holistic way to exfoliate the skin.  Beware of harsh and extreme exfoliating products and procedures..they weaken the skin over time, lead to sensitivities and throw your skin off of it's natural rhythm. Nature is smart, clay is a safe way to effectively exfoliate and mature skin needs a weekly exfoliation treatment to help remove dead skin cell build up, as the skin has a harder time sloughing off these cells, which then leads to dull, tired looking skin.

What do you get when you cross a fine artist with an art degree with a passionate, holistic, positive aging expert?  Some one who is excited and thrilled to be helping women in their late 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond learn how to use makeup, colour and light to bring out their features.  On Sunday November 23 from 12pm - 4pm,  I will be hosting my 2nd makeup event at my home studio in Fairfield.

This Seasons Little Gem: Dr Hauschka's Eye Balm

This month I want to share with you about this little gem of a product.  If you have had a facial with me, I use the Eye Balm as a intensive treatment for your eye area.  It's an amazing product to get familiar with as the colder weather sets in.  Here's why;
Dr Hauschka Eye Balm has many special features but the first one I want to highlight is the fact that being a balm it contains no water.  This makes it  super concentrated, packed with healing, strengthening oils and medicinal herbs.  The colour of the eye balm is a warm orange/ yellow, which tells you that it is very high in anti oxidant rich oils in the form of apricot kernel, jojoba and castor seed oil  But the real stand out ingredient is carrot root extract.  Rich in pro vitamin A, carrot root extract is able to smooth the skin.   Vitamin A is is fat soluble, meaning it needs to be taken with fats to be absorbed.  With the beautiful plant oils present in the eye balm absorption into the skin is guaranteed.

The Eye Balm is a product perfectly suited to the colder months as it is  highly protective of the delicate skin around your eyes.  A small amount goes a long way. Apply it before you head outdoors to give your skin extra nourishing protection.

I  like to use it a bit more heavy handed when I am at home during the day time.  I simply apply it liberally to my entire eye area and use it like an intensive treatment.  When I am ready to go out, I simply take a tissue and wipe off any excess.

Don't worry about what you'll do with this product once spring comes, as its very soothing for irritated, sore eyes due to seasonal allergies.  Containing Neem Leaf Extract, it calms and soothes red, irritated, itchy eyes.

This is my go to product for women who want to use an eye cream but have found the eye creams they have tried  in the past  irritating to  their eye area.  Eye Balm works like a charm for those with sensitivities and it's also healing for extreme conditions like eczema around the eye area.

If all that weren't enough...I take a small amount and smooth it on my eye brows.  It keeps them neatly in place and adds a nice sheen to them.  Well groomed brows can really enhance your eyes.

Eye Balm 10m is $52 and is easily last you an entire year.

This is a product I aways have in stock.  If you would like to purchase call or email me.

Compliance is the Path to Great Skin.

Recently I read some advice given from a celebrity facialist in regard to how to have great skin.  Her one word recommendation was, 'compliance'.  Not what I was expecting.  Here's what the  dictionary says on compliance: conforming to a rule, such as a specification, policy, standard or law. Compliance sounds hardline when it comes to describing how to achieve great skin...but ladies....I agree one hundred percent.

Let me tell you a story.  Fifteen years ago I trained as an esthetician.  At that time I really knew nothing about skin care. I was in my early thirties and what I had learnt about taking care of my skin I mostly gathered from fashion magazines.  Fast forward fifteen years and I know alot.  What I know is that like most things in life that one excels at, it requires commitment, dedication and discipline.  Maybe not the most fun sounding adjectives, but there are benefits too!  One of the benefits I receive is being told on a regular basis that I have gorgeous skin.  Its still a bit of a shock to hear this.  I have to work diligently and consistently to keep my skin looking healthy.  Products aren't the only part of the picture to great skin.  I also eat wisely,  for me that means  taking the time each morning to make a potent green juice with my juicer.  I schedule time for yoga, walks, rest, and creative time.  But skincare health also depends on what products you are using, and having a skincare routine.

Here is what my routine looks like.  On a daily basis  I ALWAYS cleanse my face in the morning with Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream.  I use the best quality moisturizer to protect my skin in the day time.  Usually at sometime during the day, I will apply a facial oil or eye balm to top up my protection. At night I cleanse my face and I use a mask.  Yes, every evening I put on a facial mask and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.  This usually happens while I have my evening bath.  At night I use super high quality water based products from Dr Hauschka to support my skin while I sleep.  That's my daily care.

Most importantly and I can't stress this enough, is my commitment to a weekly facial ritual.  I do this once a week, usually on a Sunday and sometimes I might even do it twice a week...it makes that much of a difference.  My facial  ritual is to gently steam my face with Dr Hauschka Steam Bath and then apply the Clay Mask.  This transforms my skin and totally refines the texture of it.  The point of me telling you all this is so you understand that it takes time, and dedication to have good skin. If I do not do these things, I know for a fact that my skin suffers.

Where I come into the picture to help you achieve skin that you are proud of is by offering a highly effective facial treatment.  Skincare is my passion and my livelihood.  There is no doubt in my mind that regular facials are crucial to having great skin.  My weekly or twice weekly ritual is a facial I give to myself.  Some of us need help to maintain routines, that's why we opt to go to a yoga class rather then practice alone at home.  If you really want to see dramatic improvements in your skin, a facial every 3-4 weeks is absolutely the place to start.  Facials have a reputation as being a luxury pampering experience.  It's time to rethink this and see facials as a essential part of our skins health.  If your budget doesn't allow for the regularity of a monthly facial, I can help you learn how to create a program for yourself at home...but you have to follow through.  At a minimum commit to having a facial seasonally.  This is a time when our skin can benefit from having support and guidance as it transitions into a new rhythm.
My bonus offering to you this November when you book a facial is the Spruce Bath Essence full size bottle.  This is a lovely warming product. Simply  add a small amount to the water you use to cleanse your face with.  It's warming and improves the circulation in the skin which in turn brings oxygen to your skin. The result, improve vitality.

Probiotics In Your Cleanser?

Last week I was doing a makeup event at Wholefoods and notice several natural cleansers featuring probiotics as the key ingredient.  I had to chuckle to myself, as the brand I trust and represent, Dr Hauschka Skincare has always been ahead of its time.  Introduced to the market back in 1968, (Was there any companies back then doing anything organic!!!!! I'd love to know) Dr Hauschka's creators, Elizabeth Sigmund and Dr Hauschka considered themselves avant guard when they created this skincare line.  A perfect example of Dr Hauschka being ahead of its time is their Soothing Cleansing Milk.  Made with a fermented grain extract, or more commonly known now days as a probiotic, Dr Hauschka skincare has aways had such a deep understanding of the skins needs.  Watch my video to learn about the benefit's of the Soothing Cleansing Milk and read below to find out about the specific benefit's it has for your skin.

The following excerpt is from the Dr Hauschka website and it explains beautifully what fermented  grain extract is and how including it as an ingredient  in the Soothing Cleansing Milk  benefits you skin.

Fermented Grain Extract

Sourdough bread made of freshly milled oats, wheat and rye is subjected to a second fermentation process, in which naturally occurring lactic acid probiotics transform the bread into a highly nutritive substance. The liquid portion that results is called Brottrunk which, literally means "bread drink"--a traditional European health drink. The remaining solid portion, rich in proteins, calcium, iron, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, E, and co-enzyme A, is used to make fermented grain extract. It contains natural ferments that help protect the skin's acid mantle and have humectant and soothing properties. Fermented grain extract also helps break down impurities while bringing moisture and vitality to the skin. Fermented grain extract contains gluten.

During a Dr Hauschka Treatment I use this amazing cleanser to gently clean the skin and strengthen it.  Co-enzyme A is a popular anti-aging ingredient in many skincare products, but in the Soothing Cleansing Milk it is occurring naturally, not from a synthetic source.  This means your skin can easily utilize it, as opposed to a synthetic source which is hard for the skin to recognise use.

If you would like to purchase the Soothing Cleansing Milk from me I sell it for $4o Canadian.  A bottle easily last 3 months.

Puff the Magic Dragon Had Puffy Eye Because He Used Eye Cream At Night...tsk tsk

Puffy eyes?  The simple no cost, no product solution?
Don't use eye cream at night.

We need to learn to work with our skin's rhythm.  The fact that your skin has a rhythm is probably something no one has told you...not your esthetician, not the cosmetician at your favourite beauty counter, and most certainly not your dermatologist.

Humans have alot in common with mother nature and her rhythms.  At night our skin 'breathes' out, just like the earth 'exhales' at night and produces dew on the ground.  When our skin breathes out it is getting rid of metabolic waste products.  The most common sense way to achieve balanced skin is to work with your skin's rhythm.  At night when your skin is releasing waste products, you want to make it easy for your skin to do its job...not make your skin work harder.

Applying eye cream before you at night makes your skin work hard to eliminate the waste products through the layer of oils contained in your eye cream.  In the morning instead of looking refreshed, your eye area is puffy because the natural process of elimination was disturbed.

Save you eye cream for day time use.  During the day your skin wants protection. Fats and oils from plant, seeds and nuts protect and nourish you skin during the day when your skin is exposed to the elements and other factors like indoor heating.  The right time for your eye cream is day time.  Don't be silly like Puff, keep your eye cream for day time use only.

Deep Relaxation the Dr Hauschka Way

Women_Working.jpg
Some people have never heard of a Two Hour Facial Treatment.  Others might think its a decadent expensive indulgence, with no real purpose other then....decadent indulgence.  I thought it was time to explain the reason behind why I don't offer 1 hour facial treatments. The Dr Hauschka Facial that I offer is 2 hours in length for a reason.

Sadly the western world has not let go of the life depleting  ethics of the industrial revolution.  Rest is not valued.  Afternoon naps are thought of as slovenly or for lazy individuals. Diets are  focused on keeping us fuelled up so we can hit the ground running when we wake up and go all day to accomplish our never ending list. Deep restorative rest takes time.  Thats why I offer a 2 Hour Facial. You will never ever see me offer a 1 hour treatment or the even sadder 30 minute express facial.

We live in a fast paced society.  No need to say more.  Most of us suffer or try to cope with information overload and  multiple demands on our time.  We try to be efficient with our time.  Maybe you incorporate super foods like raw cacao or maca to help give you energy so you can go, go, go all day long.  We are accessible 24/7 with all the technology available to us.  This leaves us very little time to connect with ourselves. The constant stimuli on our engaged autonomic nervous system, leaves our bodies fatigued and our systems lacking regulation.

At the forefront of creating a facial treatment that address the whole being, we need a reality check on were we are as modern humans.  Most of us are focused on doing and push ourselves to physical and mental exhaustion to achieve so much.  The 2 Hour Dr Hauschka Facial experience is about restoring mind, body and spirit.  The treatment is created to deactivate our overstimulated systems and it works.  I would say 80% of my clients fall into a deep sleep 45 minutes into the treatment.

In a spa treatment or facial that is scheduled for one hour it is in my opinion, impossible to achieve this level of deep release.  During a one hour facial the focus is usually on productivity...the opposite of what we need.  So much is trying to be achieve in that time frame, including getting ready for the next client..its not healthy or the client of the service provider....I know...I worked in spas for many years....and I remember fanatically racing to be on time for my next one hour appointment.

In the Dr Hauschka 2 hour Treatment there is time to effect that whole body. Starting with a sage foot bath, then moving on to a lymphatic massage to the legs and feet. Time is allowed for gentle stretching movement to the head and neck.  Arms and hands are massaged and stretched.  All this takes place before the treatment on the face even begins.  Once the body is relaxed, our skin can absorb the beautiful essential oils, plant oils and medicinal herbs that will be applied during the treatment.  We know that if you eat in a hurry or under stress (arguments at the dinner table)...the body does not absorb nutrients as it does when its calm and relaxed. Our skin is the same.

Educating people on how to truly restore, and re connect with the body takes time. A Two Hour Facial Treatment help you become the best version of yourself.

Jehovahs Witnesses, the Truth and Skincare: how it all got linked together for me.

truth

My passion for truly natural and holistic skincare can be traced all the way back to my Jehovahs Witness upbring.  Yup thats right...a little know fact about me is my unconventional Jehovahs Witness up bring.  So how does a JW childhood and natural skincare fit together? Another little known fact is, the Jehovahs Witnesses like to refer to themselves as the 'Truth'.  Growing up I heard this term the 'Truth' used to label what set the JW's apart from all the other religions out there.  JW's had the 'Truth' and all others had a lie.

The JW path wasn't my truth, but this idea of truth seems to have stuck with me. When I began my journey into skincare, I was searching for the truth.  So many skincare companies claim they are natural,  or give amazing  results. Skincare procedures claim to make you look younger, cure acne, or eliminate skin sensitivity. I never accepted what these companies said.  I dug deeper.  One of my first digs went like this.  An international skincare company  claiming to be pure and natural used a term in their marketing to describe the distinct aroma's their products have.  The term they use is called Aromaology.  I have heard of aromatherapy but what is Aromaology? I asked their rep and she told me the company  trade branded the name Aromaology to use for their scents.  Why would they need to do that?  If they were simply using pure natural essential oils as the source of their fragrances why the need for this fancy word. The truth is they weren't using pure essential oils, the fragrances in their products were synthetic, but they were marketing themselves as a natural skincare brand, so they made up a fancy word like Aromaology to hide the truth.

I continue to pursue the truth in skincare and how to care for the skin.  I have use Dr Hauschka Skincare for over 14 years and the truth is they are the cleanest, purest, products on the market.  Introduced to the public in  1967, they were avant guard from the beginning, creating organic products made from certified biodynamic plants.  Did you know there is no regulating of how skincare products are made?  That means if you wanted to create your own skincare line, you could start today in your kitchen, with your cat on the counter, there is no monitoring.    Dr Hauschka  has expert scientist creating their products, not amateur formulators and they are made in a factory that also formulates WALA homeopathic remedies, therefor the standards are at a pharmaceutical level.

If you liked this post and want to experience the benefits of either the Dr Hauschka products or Facial Treatments, am offering a special this September, that gifts you with $30 worth or Dr Hauschka skincare.

Dry Skin and the Solution

I just finished responding to a client who is dealing with dry skin and the search for the perfect moisturizer that will take care of this issue. Women in their 40-60's main issue with their skin is dryness, as the oil glands due to hormonal shifts are making less oils.  I wanted to share my response to my clients query of what to do to fix her dry skin.  My response follows below:

I have some thoughts on your dry skin.  Many people share with me that they have dry skin and they are searching for the right moisturize to fix the problem.  Often the problem goes further back.  It starts with how they are cleaning their skin.  We talk about not using soap or anything the makes suds...as this shows that the product contains surfactants that strip the skin of its own natural oils.  Even creamy cleansers can suds up and strip the skin of its own oils.  Look at your cleanser ingredients, you want the first ingredients to be high quality plant oils, such as jojoba oil, sesame oil, or avocado oil.  To save money you might even try just using an oil like the ones I mentioned to clean your face with.

Second thought....dry skin quite simply is an indicator that your oils glands are under functioning, they are not making enough oil.  To simulate oil production, you can try not using oils or creams at night....this way your own oils glands need to do some work...the work the creams were doing...to make oils.  Also the herb kidney vetch which is used in many of the Dr Hauschka products, is a balancing herb, so if your oil glands are underproducing, kidney vetch will stimulate them to make more oil.  The Moisturizing Day Cream by Dr Hauschka is a good choice for dry skin, as it  activate the oil glands to make more oil. Its a deceiving moisturizer in that it is  quite light weight in its formula. Not heavy like the Rose Day Cream.  It is light for a purpose...using the idea from homeopathy of 'like cures like', they make the Moisturizing Day Cream light so that your own oils glands have some work to do...so your oil glands can't be lazy and rely on the creams to provide all the oil.  In this way your skin becomes balanced.  That is what I have found for myself to be one of the major benefits of using Dr Hauschka products.. they have completely balanced my skin...in fact, my skin has no need to use a moisturizer in the day time, because it is completely balanced. I put on the moisturizer to fed my skin nutrients and protect it, not to fix dryness.

What is something that can enhance your joy, beauty and happiness?

We are in the midst of summer and for many of us the firery energy of summer asks for a repose.  I was unaware myself of the stimulating and at times urgent energy that accompanies summer, until a yoga teacher enlightened me. With more day light hours, trips and vacations to take, visitors, and kids home from school, there is indeed a more 'wild' energy to summer.  That's why I created a Rose Facial to restore harmony to the whole being.

Rose since ancient times has been celebrated as a source of joy, beauty and happiness. It has an amazing affinity with your skin.  Rose adds resiliency and elasticity to the skin.  It is soothing to all skin types and promote's rejuvenation of the connective tissues....think firming.  Rose is also soothing to the heart and smoothing to wrinkles.  And while rose is restoring the glow and vitality back to your skin, it also helps with depression, stress and anxiety.

Dr Hauschka skincare recognized way back in 1968 when the line was introduced to the public the healing properties of rose.  Many of their products features all parts of the rose, including precious rose wax, found on the petals of roses.  This facial is an explosion of rose in its purest, finest, organic and biodynamic form.

The 75 minute treatment is available for $95

The Best Product For Dewy Skin

This week I meet with a client in her mid 60's who is a smart cookie.  I know she is a smart cookie because she is using a whole range of Dr Hauschka products to look after her skin...and her health.  I can't emphasis enough the care we must take in ensuring that what we put on our skin is pure, and of the highest quality.  Our skin being lipophilic allows ingredients to pass through more readily then actually ingesting that same ingredient.  Great news if the said ingredient is borage oil but not so great if its a non organic mineral oil.  But back to my smart cookie client.

What impressed me about this woman was her renegade attitude  toward wrinkles.  She wasn't fighting the natural aging process with invasive treatments or dubious products claiming to make her look 20 years younger.  She was at peace with her age and enjoying life.  What she did want to improve on was the glow and vitality of her skin.  Hallelujah!  Yes, yes, yes...this is what we need to be focusing on mature skinned ladies.  Botox, injections and laser can be administered to the ying yang but if the canvas of the face...your skin, looks lifeless and dull we've really missed the mark.

So whats the solution? Its actually so easy.  Dr Hauschka Rose Cream.  Get your dew on ladies with this beautiful cream that as of May 2014 has a new formula.  Now rich in carnauba wax to provide the skin with even more protection.  It's also richer in roses, biodynamic extras of wild rose hip, rose blossoms, rose wax, rose water, rose oil from damask roses. Each tube contains over 1,075 rose petals. It's a favourite of Kate Moss, Jade Jagger and Cher. It makes sense that being so rich in roses it would make lead itself to providing the dewy glow smart cookies are going for.

The Saddest Thing Women Tell Me

During the course of a week I spend alot of time with women talking about their skin and over all well being.  I share with them what I have learnt from 14 years as a Dr Hauschka esthetician.  I truly want these women to find balance not only from any skincare issues they are dealing with but in their over all life, which is greatly effecting the health and vibrancy of their skin. I use my tool kit of personal resources that have granted me solace.  After a in depth discussion of there skin woes, I share about the transformative power the humble bath.  A simple bath combined with any one of the Dr Hauschka face masks is a woman best friend.

Bath + mask = Skin transformation in the form of radiance, vitality and glow.  So simple what woman wouldn't want to leap into her tub?

But here is the sad thing I hear over and over again from the beautiful women I am privilege to help.
Women in large  numbers are telling me they don't have time for a bath.  They stare at me blankly and comment that they don't remember the last time they had a bath, or they think wistfully about the concept of having time for a bath.  Something is truly wrong with our society if there isn't  enough time in ones day to enjoy the pleasure of a warm bath.  Time for a bathing revolution!

Bathing helps one reconnect with the wonder of who you are.  Movement and dance maverick Gabriel Roth  wrote that Westerners struggle with traditional eastern meditation practices that involve sitting still for extended periods of time. She advocated moving meditation, dancing, walking, painting, drawing, gardening.  I would add to that list bathing.  Recent research from university of Dublin highlights the physiological benefits of bathing- dilating blood vessels. lowering stress induced blood pressure, and revitalizing the adrenal glands and nervous system.

Personally a don't miss a day with out a proper visit with my tub.  Sometimes I have 2 baths, a morning bath and evening bath.  If things are on the out and out, 3 baths are the antidote.  I read that clothing designer Tom Ford has up to 7 baths a day, and he looks gorgeous.
While your healing you self in you bathing sanctuary, pour in some Dr Hauschka Bath Essence and slip on one of the Dr Hauschka facial mask.  The revolution has begun.

Sea Buckthorn an Oil Every One Will Love

Have you been noticing Sea Buckthorn Oil popping up on the shelves of your favorite natural food stores?  There is  a resurgence of plant and seed oils being used on the face and body for good  reason.  Did you know our skin absorbs nutrients more quickly then if we digest the same substance?  We really can fed the skin!  Sea Buckthorn Oil is a wonder oil and I encourage you to begin incorporating it into you skin health routine.  In the Dr Hauschka skincare line Sea Buckthorn can be found in the Regenerating Eye Cream and the Daily Hydrating Eye Cream.

Sea buckthorn gets to the root cause of imbalances in the skin by going deep within the lipid layers and healing from the inside out. Seabuckthorn, Hippophae rhamnoides, is extraordinarily rich and vital oil that is perfectly balanced in omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 oils. The oil is also potent in antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, carotenoids like beta carotene, and phytosterols that reduce redness and help heal mucous membranes. it regenerates cells, protects against cell water loss and is rich in vitamins C, E, and pro-vitamins A and B. Seabuckthorn oil is also rich in lipids, beneficial fatty acids and rare palmitoleic acids. All of these extraordinary plant properties contribute to regenerate and revitalize connective tissue.
Its combination of vitamin E and provitamin A binds free radicals and protects the skin from sun, dry air and wind. The oil supports regeneration of the skin and is thus said to counteract skin aging. Rough, dry skin becomes supple again.

The other constituents of sea buckthorn also appear to be present in particularly large amounts. The vitamin C content, for example, is nine time that of citrus fruits.

Sea buckthorn has been valued in Chinese and Tibetan medicine for 2000 years and is used particularly for restoring vitality. If you feel washed out, weak or tired sea buckthorn is the right thing to pep you up.
Sea buckthorn is born of the sun and likes brightness. The colour of its berries, crowded together on the branches like numerous setting suns, is a supreme reflection of this preference. But sea buckthorn does not wither and dry out in the intensive rays of the sun. Maybe this is what has made sea buckthorn the plant for helping dry skin.
