Dr Haushcka a Company of Social Change

WALA, where Dr Hauschka Skin Care is made in Germany

The people at Dr Hauschka Skin Care are not ordinary employees. They are responsible for their own work and share in the company profits. Indeed, Dr Hauschka Skin Care has been practising since 1969 what the German President Horst Köhler called on German industry to implement: to allow employees to share in the profits or productive wealth of their company in this era of globalization, to counteract the growing gap between rich and poor.

In 1986  Dr Hauschka Skin Care was transformed from a general commercial partnership (OHG) to a foundation.  Accordingly, all profits of the limited company belong to the Foundation, which invests them primarily in Dr hauschka skin Care or distributes part to  employees. This is because the primary function of the Foundation is to preserve the Dr Hauschka idea and to promote the continued development of Dr hauschka Skin Care.

Dr Hauschka Skin Care wasn’t established primarily as a business concern but because they believed that people need high-quality natural skin care based on the concepts of anthroposophical medicine. They  regard there work more as a cultural mission.

There is no private owner, no one who can say ‘I want to buy myself something special so I’m going to take 100,000 euros out of the company’. That’s not possible. Profits that go to the Foundation are reinvested, and no member of the Foundation can take money out.

Dr Hauschka employees also share in the company profits.  Foundation management board determine each year how much of the annual profits will go to the employees and how much will remain with the company or be transferred to the Foundation. The employees’ profit-sharing model is the outcome of our conviction that we should encourage every employee to take responsibility for his or her own work and workplace in pursuing the company goals. No one had the attitude it wasn’t their problem. Every employee cares about Dr Hauschka Skin Care's wellbeing, which is why they decided that they should share in its profits

Why Does Dr Hauschka No Longer Produce Sun Screen?

Why does Dr. Hauschka no longer produce sun screen?

This is a question I  often get asked as an esthetician . The answer is sadly down to regulations.

The official statement we recieved from Dr. Hauschka reads as follows:
Our sunscreen products used the well known and accepted Australian Standard to measure our UVA protection which is a 90% filter.  The EU Commission on Standards has stated that sun protection must now have a ratio of 1:3 UVA to UVB protection, which we were not able to reach with our natural physical sun protection.  This EU requirement ratio is not difficult to achieve for chemical sun protection factors (those products that you wait for ½ hour before exposure to the sun).  Whereas with natural mineral titanium dioxide, it works as a physical pigment that remains on the surface of the skin and performs with an extremely high UVB protection.  It’s this high performing UVB aspect that makes the ratio difficult to achieve with the technology we have at this time.
