Personality and the Bath

All of us want to enjoy health and beauty. The Dr Hauschka Bath Oils are a simple and beautiful way to restore balance and harmony on a daily basis.  Using the concept of the four temperaments, Dr Hauschka bath oils be used in a very individual way to bring balance to your unique personality type.
The following information is taken from Beauty with Substance, New Zealand.

The four temperaments is an ancient form of psychology to understand the four different personality types. Sometimes these are out of balance. Support comes in the form of Dr.Hauschka Baths either in a bath or applied with a sea sponge in the shower or another alternative is a foot bath.

Choleric Temperament:
A doer and a leader, you take on challenges and get things done, are active and focused on your work. You meet deadlines and complete tasks, but watch out for stress.
To balance:
Lavender Bath, gentle walk in nature, listen to soft music and have a massage.

Sanguine Temperament:
Optimism, humour and an upbeat nature, positive and happy and bent on enjoying life. Generous, understanding and tolerant.
To balance:
Spruce Bath, vigorous physical exercise, breathe deeply and exhale.

Phlegmatic Temperament:
An ability to think things through, to envision the future and create a plan for fulfillment of goals. You love order and find safety in routine and the predictable.
To balance:
Lemon Bath to lighten the mood when stagnated in routines. Do something new; dance is good for you, a new hobby, or perhaps a holiday somewhere you’ve never been before.

Melancholic Temperament:
Caring, compassionate and open- hearted, introverted and extremely sensitive.
To balance:
Rosemary Bath to warm your body and awaken your senses. Rosemary strengthens the spirit and revitalizes the body and lights the fire of physical powers and passion.

Why Being a Bath Junkie is Good for You

I do love my baths, and I make the most of them.  One way I do this  is by adding essential oils to my bath.  What I have discovered that is even better then the addition of a few drops of essential oils, is using Dr Hauschka Bath Oils.
Employing  a very old process  in the formulating of the Dr Hauschka bath oils, sulfated Castor oil is used for its ability to allow the essential oil to dissolve completely in water.  No more little beads of your precious essential oils floating on top of the bath water.  The bath oils come in Lemon, Lavender, Spruce, Sage, and Rosemary.

Susan West Kurz of Dr Hauschka USA was recently on the  Martha Stewart show  ( yes, Martha is a fan of Dr Hauschka),  were she explained how different 'temperments' can use the bath oils.

Off to soak in a lovely Spruce bath!

Using Rose to Support Self Love

I have been reading this great book that was mentioned in Marshal Rosenberg's classic,
'Non Violent Communication' book. Published in the early 70's by John Powell it is called, 'The Secret to Staying in Love'. Powell is a psychologist and theologian, the best combo in my opinion, blending mind and spirit.  The book  got me thinking about the healing power of rose. You see Powell asserts that to experience love on must love oneself and for the vast majority of us, deeply loving and accepting ourselves is something we resist. I won't get into all the reasons we do this, get the book he explains it way better then I could.
What I will say, is that on reflection I see places (many places) where I want to and need to go deeper into loving and accepting myself. Can I truly say I am happy to be me and I wouldn't choose any other life over the one I have? If that is my measuring stick to self acceptance some fine tuning is needed.

With that realization running through my head, rose was the next thought that came to me. Ah some divine guidance!   Called the queen of flowers, rose has a harmonizing effect on the body and is perfect to use during times of stress and emotional exhaustion when you need more nurturing support. Rose is the flower that we give to say we love someone. Rose is the mother flower, bringing a mothers love, care, and tenderness. Rose envelops us in her nurturing ways.

I have a array of healing oils I use and rotate through. My last one was lemon oil for the cellulite I noticed on my almost 50 year old thighs. I am ready to move on, accepting the lumpy bumpy, knowing I have more important things to focus on, and that ultimatly I will be okay with 'older thighs'. Now I will bring rose into my life. After each morning shower I will apply a light layer of rose oil to my still damp skin.  I know as I do this I will realize that once again I am feeling this urge to rush, with my never ending list of things I must 'DO'.  And I can make a choice to slow down, right in this moment and tune into the soothing, caring, loving qualities rose has to give. To support my own self love, this month I will be using rose.

Where to start your journey with Dr Hauschka

Many people ask me what my favourite Dr Hauschka product is. That is a easy question...I like all of them. But if I was  to narrow it down to what products really deliver,  I would have to say it's the Dr Hauschka cleansers. This may come as a surprise. In my own experience I see women make the mistake of focusing on their moisturizer and putting cleansers at a lower priority.

In a nut shell here is how I view things. If you were going to clean your kitchen floor you would clean it first before apply a polish. You would want to insure your product for cleaning you floor, removed dirt but didn't strip its surface. Its the exact same with your skin. You want to be using more then water to clean and you want to ensure you are not striping your skin with a cleanser that is not only removing dirt but also your own natural oils and your skins heathy bacteria.

You skin should feel comfortable after cleansing. Any thing less then comfortable means something is out of balance.

Way back I use to have combination skin with dry patches and oily areas.  It was a real bother  trying to get those dry patches moisturized  while keeping the other areas oil free.  That all changed  for me by using Dr Hauschka Cleaners.  They are mild and yet deeply nourish my skin.

Many clients that I see have been using foamy cleansers because they associate the way they feel with clean skin. They are also the ones who report that they have dry skin.  Gel cleansers and foaming cleansers strip the skin of its natural oil, leaving it indeed feeling clean.  Unfortunately along with taking away the dirt, they take off the  natural protective oils, and our skin now has to work extra hard to correct the situation.  With the repeated daily use of  harsh cleansers, it takes a toll on the skin.  Thankfully this concept of over stripping the skin is becoming better understood and adopted by the skincare practitioners.

It might take some time to get use to the feel of a cream cleanser, but before long you will notice a noticeable improvement in your skin.  The oils in the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Milk, gently lift off dirt, with the added benefit of feeding the skin with beneficial, healing plant extracts and oils.

What ultimatly happened for me was, my combination skin disappeared and has never returned, not even in the cold of winter.   The cleanser also makes it possible to follow the advice of the Dr Hauschka  to not use oil based creams or lotions on the face at night.  So many people are shocked by this concept,  but using a cream cleanser can go a long way to making it possible not to feel the need to cover your skin with night cream at night.  Your skin just won't feel tight and dry and you'll be one step closer to adopting a skin care routine that is in harmony with the rhythm of your skin.

The Dr Hauschka Soothing Cleansing Milk contains a fermented grain extract that removes every trace of dirt, makeup and impurities, while bentonite clay calms irritation. Soothing jojoba and sweet almond oils maintain skin's natural moisture balance and anthyllis extract tones and nourishes. After rinsing, skin feels pampered and velvety smooth.

The Wonder Filled World of Dr Hauschka

Welcome to the wonderful world or Dr Hauschka and I do mean 'wonder-filled'.  In 2001 I received my aesthetics  diploma from the Aveda Institute in Victoria, British Columbia.  When I graduated I worked for several years at spa's in my area. But my ultimate goal was to have my own skincare business.  I began a search for a natural skin care line I could use in my home based skincare studio.

I attended a spa show in Vancouver, BC, and while looking through the long list of skincare companies selling their wares, I saw the name Dr Hauschka Skincare.  At the time I knew nothing about Dr Hauschka. Something lead me to decided that out of all the companies present this was the one I was heading for.  When I came to their booth it was very different from all the other sellers at the show.  In fact no one seemed to be in a rush to sell me anything. They invited me to sit down and they truly wanted to educate me about the philosophy behind their unique products.

As they told me the story of Dr Hauschka skincare, I was amazed to discover that it has its roots in the philosopher Rudolf Steiner and the anthroposophical movement.  All my life I have been surrounded by people involved with Rudolf Steiners philosophies, even though I myself knew hardly a thing about him or his ideas.  I grew up on a  small island that had a

Waldorf school, and had many friends who were brought us with Steiner's teachings.  I knew I had truly hit the jackpot and I no longer had to look any further for my natural skincare line.  To top it off, the kind people at the booth, rather then try to sell me products, actually gifted me with a beautiful sample kit.  I remember being impressed with their unique way of introducing me to their products and philosophy. Amazingly they didn't even have any products to sell at the spa show. It was truly about connecting.

From there I went on to complete my training with the company to become a certified Dr Hauschka esthetician.  I am proud to be one of a small handful of specially trained certified Dr Hauschka aestheticians in Canada. My blog is intended to share with you the joy and wonder of this magnificent skincare line and inspire you to embrace a truly holistic approach to caring for you skin and your whole being.
